PS - Hike: Cathedral Canyon / Dunn Road Loop

This hike begins at the top of the Cathedral Cove and climbs steeply with great views of the city and across the valley to Joshua Tree. At the top the trail winds through a desert valley with great views of San Jacinto. The trail loops back on the dirt Dunn Road to the start. 

  • Meet Time: We will gather about 7:45 AM and begin hiking at 8:00 AM
  • Meeting Place: Foothill Road and Channel Drive, Cathedral City map here
  • Park: Along Channel Drive
  • Trail Length: 4.0 mile loop
  • Total Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,100'
  • Difficulty Rating: Moderate Plus - uphill with 1,000 feet of elevation gain over three sections in the first mile. The first incline is steep, the second and third less steep, but longer.  Some sections have loose rock. Total incline is 1,000 feet. If you are not accustomed to hiking elevation, please avoid this hike.
  • Terrain: Trail, old road

What to bring: Ten Essentials (click here), water (1 to 2 liters recommended), lunch/snacks, sun protection, layered clothing, hiking poles may be helpful. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required.
