Fun Facts: The hot pool waters at Miracle Hot Springs operate on a continuous flow-through (pass-through) systemFresh, natural geothermal water is constantly pumped or piped into the pools while older water is simultaneously discharged. Because this flow-through system keeps the water fresh, pure, and continuously moving.

The legendary waters of Desert Hot Springs owe their existence to an incredible subterranean journey. The mineral water of the Miracle Hill aquifer begins as snowmelt on Mount San Gorgonio, traveling through underground fissures for roughly seven years to reach the valley. As it filters deep into the earth, it is naturally heated by magma to temperatures between 120°F and 174°F while absorbing therapeutic minerals like lithium, calcium, and magnesium. For centuries, the indigenous Cahuilla people were the original stewards, revering the waters for curative properties. In 1913, pioneer homesteader Cabot Abram Yerxa discovered the branch of the San Andreas Fault bisecting the area when he dug two wells yards apart: one produced ice-cold drinking water, while the other hit 132°F mineral water. By the 1940s, the region grew into the celebrated '"Mineral Water Capital of the World," paving the way for classic mid-century retreats like Miracle Springs Resort.
