 Hike, Apples, and Picnic Lunch at the Ranch 

Enjoy an Autumn day at Southern California's largest historic apple ranch and Wildlands Conservancy

Join us for a scenic hike exploring the Oak Glen Wildlands Conservancy. Spanning a 103-year-old historic ranch, the main trail winds through diverse habitats at a refreshing 4,000 to 4,800 feet of elevation. You will encounter pristine ponds, flowing streams, lush wetlands, chaparral, willow groves, and dense oak and pine forests.

    Logistics & Meeting Details

    • Departure Meeting Time: 9:00 AM
    • Departure Location: PetSmart parking lot (Ramon Rd / Lawrence Crossley Rd, next to the Walmart Gas Station in Palm Springs). Map Click here.
    • On-Site Meeting Time: 10:00 AM at the parking lot near the arch at the trailhead of the Oak Glen Wildlands Conservancy. Click here for Map.
    • Drive Time: Approximately 1 hour each way from Palm Springs.
    • Carpooling: Carpooling is encouraged, though availability depends on participating drivers. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation or rideshare. Please bring money to share travel expenses if you ride with someone.

    Registration & Eligibility

    • Open to Everyone: Welcome to Great Outdoors members, guests, and non-members alike.
    • Requirements: Each person must register separately and acknowledge the organization's terms and conditions and policies.

    Hike Metrics 

    • Distance: 2 miles
    • Total Elevation Gain: 350 feet
    • Trailhead Elevation: 4,800 feet
    • Trail Type: Out-and-back loop
    • Estimated Hike Time: 1.5 hours
    • Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (features one steep uphill climb)

    What to Bring

    • If hiking: sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water.
    • Recommended Gear: 1 to 2 liters of water, sun protection, layered clothing, and hiking poles may be helpful.
    • Personal Info: Always carry your Emergency Contact Information (ICE).
    • Funds: Money for lunch and your rideshare driver (if applicable).

    Optional Lunch

    Following the hike, enjoy lunch with us at the historic Los Rio Rancho Farm Kitchen (Menu) and eat at the outdoor picnic tables.
