The Copper Canyon train in Mexico, known as El Chepe (Chihuahua al Pacífico Railway), is a spectacular engineering marvel and scenic journey through Mexico's Sierra Madre, connecting the desert to the Pacific by traversing massive canyons (larger than the Grand Canyon) with breathtaking views, tunnels, and bridges.  The train journey is considered to be one of the greatest train journeys in the world, and the finest in North America.  Built over decades, the line features 39 bridges and 86 tunnels, climbing from near sea level to over  8,000 feet.  The trip from El Fuerte to Creel is about 7 hours.  Expect dramatic drops, deep gorges, and diverse landscapes.  The train trip will start in El Fuerte reaching Creel in the early evening.  For a 3 minute PBS video of the Copper Canyon Railway click here.

There are two classes of service available.  The First Class service has more comfortable seats and panoramic windows to ensure you don’t miss a moment of the majestic scenery of the Sierra Tarahumara.
