Our Monday Night Hike leader, Gary Cleff, invites Great Outdoors members to join his Meetup group, “Perfect Weather Hike,” for a weekly Saturday morning hike in Griffith Park. This is a diverse group where everyone is welcome- queer folx and allies building community togetherness.

Details: Gary and Marvin are your hosts. We’ll have views of the Pacific Ocean, Griffith Observatory, and downtown Los Angeles. The trail is roughly a 2-hour, 4-mile loop on mostly fire roads, starting at Cadman Trail heading to 5-points, Beacon Hill, the helicopter pad, and either past the Cedar grove and down through the residential neighborhood or return past the water stop, back to 5-points and continue down. Steady incline, approximately 700ft elevation gain in the first hour - challenging for beginners but worth it! Go at your own pace. We’ll gather at each split in the trail to make sure everyone is accounted for. Optional back strengthening plank pose challenge at the helipad. Largely downhill from there, through a gorgeous neighborhood and back to our starting point. Some may go for a late breakfast or lunch.

Dog friendly. Just remember there are coyotes in the park.

Wear appropriate footwear.

Bring: drinking water in a reusable bottle, snacks, sun protection, appropriate footwear. Carry Emergency Contact Information.

There is NO restroom on this hike. The nearest is at the Griffith Park, Southern Railway by the Griffith Park Cafe on Crystal Springs Drive. It’s a 15-minute roundtrip walk between the meeting place and the restroom.

Carpool if possible. Carpool/ride sharing information: Due to liability and insurance reasons Great Outdoors cannot organize carpools and hike/trip leaders cannot take an active role in making arrangements for participants' transportation.
