Once the CV Link is completed in the Spring, the bike paths in Palm Springs will transform the riding possibilities for cyclists in the area. This ride will include some of the newer sections of the Link that are still under construction. (Note: The construction supervisor said it’s ok that we ride this, since it’s a weekend ride and there will be no construction taking place.)
We will start at Smoke Tree Village (for directions see meeting location below), head up Sunrise on the sidewalk/bike path, and then turn east on the new Link path along Mesquite. We’ll work our way to the section of the Link that runs along Cimmaron Golf Course and then cross over Vista Chino and continue to the northwest, using the 5-mile section that runs from Vista Chino and goes all the way to Highway 111, north of the Tramway road. Please note: most of this section is paved and rideable. But there are five or 6 short sections where riders may need to dismount and walk their bikes through packed sand. At Highway 111, we’ll turn south and make our way back to Smoke Tree through mostly neighborhood streets. The bike ride will be approximately 20 miles in total.

Caution: Much of this ride will be on the Link and/or neighborhood streets. However, there will be brief sections where we will be riding with traffic, on busier streets. The ride is mostly flat, although there are a couple of short sections that have a slight incline. You should consider yourself a confident street cyclist to complete this ride. Also, be aware that it can be very windy at the north end of Palm Springs.
