PS - Hike: Sawtooth Loop Chaparossa Spring

The Sawtooth Mountain range is an array of multi boulder formations, canyons, and washes and high desert vegetation. We will do a loop hike to the Chaparossa Spring among the bounders with interesting formations. The trail begins at the new trailhead off Keys Rd. near Pioneertown which is part of the Wildlands Conservancy Pioneer Mountain Preserve.

  • Trail Length: 4.8 miles
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 700 feet
  • Trailhead Elevation: 4,000 feet
  • Difficulty Rating: Moderate 
  • Trail Route: Loop
  • Terrain: Rocky trail, sandy areas, a short steep  section
  • Hiking time approx. 2.5 hrs.

Bring Ten Essentials (click here), water (2 to 3 liters recommended), trail snacks. Sun protection and layered clothing are recommended. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Hiking poles may be helpful.

Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are essential.

Carpooling may be available if offered by driver. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation or ride share. Arrive a few minutes early for briefing and carpooling. Distance to trailhead is 40 miles. Directions click here
