PS - Hike: Garstin Shannon Henderson

This hike offers scenic views of Palm Springs and the San Jacinto Mountains after a steep climb up the Garstin Trail. We plan to hike at a leisurely pace, starting and ending at Barona Road in south Palm Springs. 

Meeting Place: Garstin Trailhead on Barona Rd. (click here). Driving east on Bogert Trail road, cross the bridge over the wash and take the first left turn onto Barona Road. The trailhead is at the end of the cul de sac. There is limited street parking nearby so carpooling is encouraged and may be offered by participants.

Meeting Time: We will gather about 8:45 a.m. to begin hiking at 9 a.m.

  • Trail Length: 3.7 mile loop
  • Hiking time: 3 hours
  • Total Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,100 feet
  • Maximum Elevation: 1,522 feet
  • Difficulty Rating: Moderate* but starting with a long, steep climb
  • Expected time of return: noon
  • Terrain: well-established trail, sandy or rocky and narrow in spots. Parts of the trail are used by equestrians and mountain bikers.

* Moderate: generally suitable for novice hikers who want a bit of a challenge. The terrain will involve a moderate incline and may have some steeper sections.

Bring Ten Essentials (click here), water (2 liters recommended), snacks, sun protection, layered clothing. If wind is in the forecast, bring an appropriate hat and jacket. Carry Emergency Contact Information.
