Explore this lesser known trail in the Sky Valley leading to amazing views of the valley and a part of Joshua Tree National Park seldom visited. The route starts in a sandy wash then quickly ascends a very steep, very rocky, and not-so-well marked trail (don't worry, we will not get lost). We then go up following the west* side of the loop to the first way-point cairn at 1.5mi for a brief rest and great views from 950ft. From there the route moves north across the JTNP boundary and into the park to the turn-around at 3.0mi for lunch. We return via the same route.

*We will not be traveling up or down on the east side of the loop (as seen on AllTrails) between the valley floor and the cairn as part of this hike; ascent/descent on that section is very steep with an unstable, very rocky/gravelly path and significant drop-off on either side in places before reaching the valley floor.
