PALM SPRINGS WANDERINGS--AN UNOFFICIAL LOOP
This First Friday Bike Ride will be on designated bike paths, lanes, loops and routes around PS. This casual ride travels neighborhood streets throughout Palm Springs. There are a number of busy intersection crossings: N. Indian Canyon, N. Palm Canyon, S. Palm Canyon, Tahquitz and Sunrise - some at traffic lights!
We will ride to the northern boundary of Palm Springs then ride along west boundaries in Vista Las Palmas before skirting the business district as well as meandering through the Historic Tennis Club - more western boundaries - and east through Warm Sands before heading north through Baristo and Movie Colony East as we return to our starting point to complete our loop. The total length of the ride will be approximately 12-15 miles.
There are gradual inclines heading north and west, however there are two short ‘steepish’ hills in Vista Las Palmas, as well as the Rose Hill thrill ride payoff for your efforts.
There will be a few ‘points of interest’ stops along the way.
Bathrooms will be available at VIctoria Park and the Downtown Park along Museum Way.
What to Bring: water (2 to 3 liters recommended), lunch/ snacks, sun protection, and layered clothing. Carry emergency contact information.
All riders are strongly encouraged to wear helmets. Inflate your tires to the recommended PSI. You may want to bring a tire pump, spare tube, bike tools, water, sunscreen and snacks.
To be considered: Preparedness has been reinforced recently by a demonstration using a tube valve pin removal tool, tube sealant and a small cordless compressor, which became invaluable for roadside repair.
