Our adventure begins in a shaded grove of California Live Oaks. Most of the trail has a canopy of trees. It is a great summer hike because there is so much shade but I picked it for an autumn hike hoping to see some seasonal colors on deciduous trees.
The walk will go through Tapia Park, cross Las Virgenes Road at the light and begin the path to Piuma Ridge Trail, which is a section of the Backbone Trail. There are wonderful views of the upper section of Malibu Canyon. Dogs are not allowed on the trail.
