PS - Hike - Mission Creek to Whitewater Preserve - Shuttle

• 6.2 miles      
• Hiking time: 3-4 hours
• Total Elevation Gain/Loss: 600 feet

• Type:  Trail - one way with van shuttle
• Terrain: rocky trail, sandy areas, rocky dry stream crossing as of now, but water may return.

Description:

One of the best trails in the Coachella Valley - geological formations, expansive views, PCT thru-hikers on the trail, and it's  wildflower season! 

We hike 6.2 miles one way from the Mission Creek Preserve to the Whitewater Preserve. We meet at the Palm Springs PetSmart parking area and our passenger van will drop us off at the Mission Creek stone house. We hike up the West Fork Trail two miles to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) on the ridge, drop down into the Whitewater wash, crossing the Whitewater River.... to the Canyon View Loop Trail …. leading to Whitewater Preserve Ranger Station. The Whitewater river has diverted to underground flow in this area, but it may reappear for surface flow sometime in the future.

Bring Ten Essentials (click here), water (2 to 3 liters recommended), lunch and snacks. Sun Protection and layered clothing are recommended. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required. Bring a mask to wear while in the van. Hiking poles may be helpful. Optional lunch at Goody's Cafe upon return.
