Mission Creek Preserve, located in a transition zone between the Sonoran and Mojave deserts, the 4,760-acre Mission Creek Preserve has a rich species composition with flora and fauna representing both deserts.” - TWC 

Will we hike from the preserve gate, past the main stone house to the Whitewater river overlook. Multiple opportunities for breaks and most of the tail is wide and flat. I was a ranger years ago for the conservancy, Mission Creek was one of the preserves I maintained and patrolled. I will share my knowledge of the history of the preserve.

  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 100 feet

  • Difficulty Rating: moderate

  • Trail Type: out and back

  • Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

  • Fees/Charges: free

Departure Time: 8am from the gate, meet at gate.

Location: Mission Creek Preserve - From Hwy 62 head northwest on Mission Creek Road. This is a well maintained dirt road that runs about 2 miles. Park in the lot next to the gate. Map click here

Bring: Face cover, Ten Essentials, water (2 to 3 liters recommended), lunch/ snacks, sun protection, layered clothing, hiking poles may be helpful. Carry Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Sturdy hiking footwear with good tread and adequate drinking water are required.

Carpooling:  Carpooling is not recommended except for members of the same household. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation.

Participants will meet the following expectations as a condition of registering for this event:

  1. I will follow Federal, State and local COVID guidelines as well as the directions of the leader

  2. I will maintain social distance (min. 6') and wear a face mask if social distancing is not possible

  3. I will not attend if feeling ill or have any symptoms of COVID.

  4. I will contact trip leader if I test positive for COVID within 14 days of the event
