.Morgan Trail Day Hike Saturday
May 8, 2021 starting at 8:30 AM
On May 8th I am going to reprise a favorite hike at Frederick's request. We will be hiking the Morgan Trail in the San Mateo Wilderness. It is a 10.8 mile total out and back hike. It is easy to moderate. Moderate only for length. We will hike through the most beautiful oak forest in Orange County. Because it is a Wilderness area, the trail will be free of mountain bikes.
We will start at the Ortega Oaks Candy Store on CA highway 74 at 8:30; and hike to the true trailhead on S Main Divide Road where there is a nice picnic table to have lunch or a snack. We will then retrace our steps and hike back to the candy store. The candy store has good fudge and pie.
The trail has poison oak and rattlesnakes, but they are off the trail. Bring a hat, sunscreen, at least 2 liters of water, a snack and lunch and click here for the list of your ten essentials. There is plenty of parking across from the candy store. It requires an adventure pass or National Park pass. Pick your pass up in advance as, although they are available at the candy store, the candy store does not open until 9 a.m. (Click here for a list of vendors.) We will be long gone by then.
Because of COVID19 restrictions, the group will be limited to 10
Carpooling is not recommended except for members of same household. You are responsible for arranging you own transportation.
