El Capitan State Beach Campout: June 6-9, 2019
This extremely popular beach west of Santa Barbara off U.S. Highway 101, is a perfect place to enjoy camping, hiking, surfing, picnicking, and beach walking.
Lush sycamores and oaks flourish along El Capitán Creek at the entry to the state beach. Tall bluff-top groves are visible for miles along the terraced coastline. At El Capitán, the moderate climate brings cool fog during the summer months. A stairway provides access from the bluffs to the beach area.
The 2018 AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride from SF to LA is scheduled to pass directly by El Capitán on Day 6 of the tour (Friday, June 7th). Like last year we will be on the bike route to “cheer-on” the riders as they pass the campground on their way toward Paradise Pit in Santa Barbara! (27 miles to go for ice cream!) Bring your homemade signs, flags, cowbells/noise makers and streamers!
El Capitán SB is located off Hwy 101 seventeen miles west of Santa Barbara. From Hwy 101 North- or Southbound, take Exit 117 for El Capitan State Beach. Proceed south toward the ocean and the park entrance. PLEASE NOTE: This is a tent camping trip - sorry no RV’s. Reservations are under “Scott Kuther” sites 87, 88, 89, 90 & 91
Parking is limited to 3 cars per campsite on a first come, first serve basis. All vehicles must remain on the parking pavement and must not extend into the roadway beyond the campsite number or limit line. A $10 per day parking fee will be charged by the campground for all others, so please carpool if at all possible.
