This is one of the few hiking areas where one can view a waterfall closeup (water is very likely to be flowing). It is a popular destination as well. Also, there are plenty of wonderful sights/views and history along the way.

Starting from where I live, we will go a few blocks through a lovely neighborhood, famous for its Mid-Century Modern architecture. Continuing on, we then scramble up a 'STEEP' side ridge (about 80 ft.) which eventually connects to the northern section of the North Lykken Trail. We then follow this trail to a junction and continue to head west into the canyon and towards the waterfall. Within the canyon, one will require some minor bouldering (not difficult) and pass through some high-growth vegetation. Wearing long pants/long-sleeved shirt is suggested. We will then take an appropriate lunch/snack break and soak in the views when at the high waterfall. While at that area, I will mention an appropriate, physical activity which is known to take place in the vicinity of the waterfall! Afterwards, we'll hike out of the canyon towards the Las Palmas Dam and then to the street--back to where I live.

While going back, one will appreciate the views from the narrow canyon. The views--such as unique rock formations in the canyon, the entire structure of Las Palmas Dam, and a rare view--looking down at Palm Springs from the extreme west end, as well. After going over the dam, we will go into a fenced-in abandoned development. There are 2 ways to get out of this development--under the fenced gate or climb over it (I always go under it).

Poor weather conditions will cancel this hike.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE wear adequate hiking shoes/boots. WARNING!: Sneakers will NOT be allowed on the hike.

Bring plenty of water (at least 2 liters) and Emergency Contact Information (ICE). Take along snacks as there will be a 10-15 minute rest next to or near the falls (water is very likely to be flowing), a hat (or sunscreen), and a wonderful attitude. Thanks. Also, pets are NOT allowed.

Please call 760-320-2774 or email David at dhs321@gmail.com for inquiries and directions to his home. Thanks.
