Make our organization known to our neighbors and the public at large. Reach out to our 'community' and allies who long to join a group who are trained at leading hikes and outings.

EVENT
The Los Angeles and Orange County / Long Beach chapters of GREAT OUTDOORS have joined forces for this year's annual Long Beach PROUD event.
This event is more than just a gathering of members; it’s a chance to expand our community and demonstrate our commitment to health, wellness, and camaraderie.

Wait, there's more. What do the Great Outdoors and Shoreline Frontrunners have in common? A passion for getting OUT! So, feel free to arrive early and get in some extra steps before the festivities begin.

BE PROUD! Fest - 2024 will have have music, food, booths, and plenty of merriment and gaiety (that's where we come in)!
Based on the itinerary below, there are plenty of options for us to gather as a group and explore our great city and community.
ITENERARY
09:00 AM:
Optional Pre-Event: For the earlier birds among us who'd like to get in some extra steps for the day, join the Shoreline Frontrunners/walkers at 0900 AM for their regular run/walk along the ocean (meet at Ocean Blvd. and Redondo Ave.). Here (https://sfrlb.com/) is more information about Shoreline Frontrunners and their morning run/walk.
01:00 PM (or any time):
Visit your GO brothers and sisters at our Great Outdoors booth
[South of 1st Street (just above Ocean Blvd.) in between Junipero and Cherry Avenue.]
Come by to just say howdy, or join us in helping us greet the public and educate them about GO OCLB and LA chapters.
Wear your Great Outdoors t-shirt if you have one or your hiking apparel. Here is where we will kick off our fun-filled social outing at BE PROUD! Fest!
2:00 PM-ish: Hike The Gayborhood
A walk through the Alamitos Beach Gayborhood through Bixby Park , down the Broadway Corridor toward Downtown Long Beach and looping back along the beach path (about 2.5 miles round trip). John Blasco who has lived in the gayborhood for the past 34 years will lead and share his knowledge of Southern California's most historic LGBTQ+Allies district.
3:30 PM-ish:
Return for relaxation, drinks, and enjoying music at the PROUD Fest in Bixby Park.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
Please carpool, if possible. Parking can be time-consuming to locate. If you would like a ride or could provide a ride, please email John Blasco at [email protected] and John will share your email, general location, and phone number if you'd like to share with others who respond as interested in carpooling. As Great Outdoors members we strive to do our part to reduce traffic and parking congestion and help protect the environment.
Parking will be on the street. Due to the street closures we strongly recommend ridesharing/carpooling or travel by Metro/Long Beach Transit. The best parking will probably be east of Junipero and south of Broadway in the Bluff Park residential neighborhood.
