Gazebo at Roessler Point - Palos Verdes Estates

The gazebo was named after former councilman and mayor of Palos Verdes Estates Fred Roessler. It is located at Paseo del Mar and Via Arroyo next to the Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club and across the parking lot from Malaga Cove School.

10:15 am: Hike One:

Our resident geologist (just back from the Caucasus Mountain countries) Professor Joe Holliday will guide us along the Malaga Cove Trail which is a scenic short coastal trail down the hill from the Gazebo to the rocks, sand, and surf of the "prettiest beach you've never heard of".

11:45 am:

We depart for Point Vicente Interpretive Center (5.3 miles, 12-minute drive),

31501 Palos Verdes Drive West, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275

12 Noon-ish Lunch/Snack Break:

Free parking lot adjacent to Interpretive Center and Lighthouse Park area.

Meet at the lawn/picnic area just south of Interpretive Center and Museum for lunch/snack break.

This is an easy trail with breathtaking views as we pass above Pelican Cove and stroll onward to the spectacular Terranea Resort property. * a note about the Palos Verdes land sliding: The PV peninsula has more landsliding than any other urban area in America. It has accelerated recently due to the very wet winter , when rain increased the amount of lubricating groundwater. The size of the landsliding area has doubled now to encompass over one square mile. 100 homes have been affected, as well as the famous Wayfarers Chapel which has had to close and is being dismantled to hopefully find a new site to be rebuilt. Our originally planned hike to the Abalone Cove area had to be cancelled due to the trails being closed by the authorities due to the perceived danger.
