4x4 Trip Burns Canyon, from Rimrock (N of Pioneertown) to Big Bear

We will repeat the Burns Canyon trail which we have not done in 2 years. The road starts in the small town of Rimrock, North of Pioneertown, and end near Baldwin lake, which is just East of Big Bear. The route is about 20 miles. The return route follows CA 38 into Yucaipa to I-10, or CA 18 to Old Woman Springs to CA 62 back to Palm Springs. The route is mostly smooth going, but there are various challenges, including rocks, sand, and possibly mud. You can expect the temperatures to drop as we ascend, probably 20 degrees.

Meet Time in PS:  8:50 in the Carl's Jr.'s parking lot on Racquet Club Rd. at N. Palm Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs (map click here).  Be prompt for a 9:00 departure.

Or Meet Time Pioneertown:  Meet at 9:45 across from the Frontier Cafe on Pioneertown Rd., in Yucca Valley (Map click here).

What to Bring: Food and beverages, we will stop on the trail for lunch.

Equipment Requirements:  4-wheel drive high clearance vehicle with transfer case, trail rated tires, a spare tire and a full tank of gas.

Rated:  Moderate-suitable for stock 4x4 vehicles. Much of this trail is easy to moderate; however, two steep hills have large boulders to maneuver around.

Pets:  Welcome.
