Agua Chinon Day Hike Saturday April 6, 2024 Beginning at 8:00 AM Great Day for a Hike! Time 8:00 AM meet at trail head Length: 6 miles (loop trail) Duration: 3 to 3.5 hours Difficulty level: Moderate Description: Agua Chinon is a beautiful and remarkably wild canyon within Orange County Parks' Limestone Canyon Preserve. Mountain lions and rattlesnakes are abundant though it is unlikely we will see any. In order to protect its sensitive natural resources, it is seldom open to the public and we will likely have it to ourselves. We will have the opportunity to view numerous habitat restoration areas managed by the trip leader as part of his day job. The entire hike will be on jeep trails with relatively even terrain and no particular hazards. The first half-mile will be on a frontage road bordering the 241 tollroad. We will quickly leave civilization behind as we enter the canyon and hike two miles along the valley bottom bordering a gently sloping wash. The final mile ascends steeply with an 800 feet elevation gain to a spectacular overlook with views of a chasm known locally as "The Sinks." We will return by the same route. Please note that it will not be possible to turn back once the hike begins since all hikers must be accompanied by the trip leader. Call or text Robert at 747-231-9093 if you need more information.
