_ Cancelled _ Join us for a leisurely-paced bike and hike event in the scenic Indian Canyons of South Palm Springs. We’ll repeat some of our route from last November’s outing, this time expanding our off-trail route up Fern Canyon to find a hidden oasis.
This is an up-and back trip. The Canyon floor offers incredible views while cycling – a very different experience from seeing it while inside the confines of an automobile. Total distance (roundtrip) on bikes is about four miles and the hike is about another two. Overall rating of this outing is moderate.
Departing from our meetup spot at the South Lykken trailhead, we’ll bike up the Canyon, pay the entrance fee and continue on the paved road to a parking area near Split Rock. We’ll park and lock our bikes and start our hike with some rock scrambling up Palm Canyon creek until we find Fern Canyon. We follow that trail for about a mile, then go off-trail again and start our mild climb towards the hidden oasis. The hike is only a couple hundred feet of elevation gain, and we’ll do some non-technical rock scrambling and boulder hopping throughout the morning.
