Welcome to the Great Outdoors Palm Springs Speaker Series.  Our guest speaker for the December 17, 2019 will be Professor Kurt Leuschner, will discuss the The Palms to Pines Birding and Nature Trail.  The talk will start at 6:30 pm. The presentation will be held on the 2nd floor, Room 4 of the Center.

The Palms to Pines Scenic Byway is a 67-mile route that takes you from Palm Desert past snow-peaked mountains to Banning Pass. The Palms to Pines Scenic Byway offers a full variety of ecosystems in the Lower Sonoran region. From clusters of desert palms to high country conifer forests and snow-capped mountains, you experience a contrast of ecosystems within a short distance. This talk will focus on the birds occupying these ecosystems, and opportunities for viewing them.

Kurt Leuschner is a Professor of Natural Resources at College of the Desert where he teaches courses on Conservation, Entomology, Field Ornithology, Native Plants, and GPS Navigation.  His latest research project involves the sound recording of the various subspecies of North American Scrub-Jays. Kurt continues to take groups on photographic safaris to Africa, New Zealand, the Galapagos, and various locations in the southwestern United States. He is the founder of the Desert Cities Bird Club, on the Board of Directors of Western Field Ornithologists, and is past President of the Natural Science Collaborative. His most recent publications are the Palms to Pines Birding and Nature Trail map and brochure and a Field Guide to Desert Golf Course Wildlife.
