SB/VC is off Cruising again!

Carnival Splendor cruise ship

In the wake of our recent, successful weekend cruise to Ensenada, Mexico, when 11 G.O. members ate and laughed their way up and down the Pacific, Great Outdoors Santa Barbara/Ventura Chapter is pleased to announce two new cruises scheduled for later this year. Working together with Cruise Bargains Inc., we have secured some of the best prices per day, EVER!

August 27-30th, a 4 day, 3 night Cruise to Ensenada, Mexico, only $428 including Port charges and taxes.

December 12th-19th, an 8 day, 7 night Holiday Cruise to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas, for an amazing deal $530 for seven days, including taxes and port charges!

Our Upcoming Trips

 Santa Catalina Island
8/13-8/16

Water, Water, Everywhere” is the theme for this Island Camping trip. We begin with an exhilarating 1-hour, 30-mile scenic cross-channel water ferry ride on our “shared” power yacht (think Ari Onassis … wear your white sunglasses!) from San Pedro on the mainland to our island destination, Santa Catalina - a largely undeveloped Channel Island.

We will spend a wonderful long weekend in one of the most beautiful campgrounds in California with its dramatic tall hillside valley perched campsites overlooking the rocky coastline, sand and pebble beaches, and expansive sea.
santacatalinaYou’d think you’ve gone to the Greek Islands with its rugged island terrain and awe inspiring views (is that the Aegean Sea?)..

 Rancho Cuyamaca, Green Valley
8/13-8/15

This is one of our favorite destinations. It boasts some of the best hiking trails in Southern California. The Orange County/Long Beach & San Diego Chapters have reserved space at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. This is a mountain setting 16 miles south of Julian Ca. and east of Escondido. We will camp at about 4,500 feet in elevation in a pine forest.

 Burning Man
8/30-9/6

The annual Burning Man event started on San Francisco's Baker Beach in 1986. In 1990, it moved to the Black Rock Desert (BRD) and has been there since. BRD is about 1.5 hours outside of Reno, NV. In 2008, 49,000+ people showed up, in 2009 - just over 44,000.

What Is Burning Man? Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever. Learn more about this incredible experience, read their mission statement and their Ten Principles. You can read more about Burning Man at their official website - www.BurningMan.com.

The 2010 Art Theme is "Metropolis" - Tumult and change, churning cycles of invention and destruction - these forces generate the pulse of urban life. Great cities are organic, spontaneous, heterogeneous, and untidy hubs of social interaction. In 2010, we will inspect the daily course of city life and the future prospect of civilization.

This is a Great Outdoors event, to enable members of the Great Outdoors organization to join forces and enjoy this event as a group or as individuals. The event goes for one week - but, you can go for a shorter period of time if you wish. We will camp together (or not if you wish) and enjoy some shared activities and events.
