Right On SBVC! Our February 2010 outing is put together by 2 new trip leaders from the SBVC chapter, and Klaus in LA. Renting ATV’s for a few hours of fast, reckless driving on a gorgeous beach/dunes … well, that’s EXACTLY what Saturdays are FOR! This, juxtaposed with an amateur get-to-know-each-other talent show/tea on Friday night, a regular GO Potluck on Saturday night, and a visit to the Monarch Grove butterfly park on Sunday should make for a unique, exciting, and varietal Great Outdoors outing! Woohoo! (In addition to the fantastic events planned by SBVC, Klaus is going to try to squeeze in a decent hike or run early on Saturday morning before the ATV adventure, and at least one pick-up game of Frisbee on the beach!) We’ll see you there!

CAMPING TRIP - SALTON SEA
Including A Tour Of A Geothermal Plant

February 18-21, 2010
Trip Leaders: Scott Connelly (Palm Springs)

Scott is leading a camping trip to the Salton Sea State Recreation Area (SRA). We'll be camping in the "New Camp" campground located adjacent to the Visitor Center. The campground is nice with shaded areas, picnic tables, fire pits, running water, flush toilets and showers. Both tents and RVs can be accommodated.

For those camping, a special tour of a geothermal plant is being offered. We'll also have a couple of hikes, visit to the mud volcanoes, a visual presentation of the San Andreas Fault at the Salton Sea, a visit to Salvation Mountain and a group potluck meal.

If you'd like to go, read the full Trip Notes and complete/mail the Registration Form -

Hiking with Outdoor Experience 1

Outdoor Experience I - April 24-25, 2010
Outdoor experience II - May 14-16, 2010

It never hurts to be prepared for things unexpected. Not only will you learn about keeping warm, choosing a campsite, and making water safe to drink, but you'll be taught minimum impact camping techniques so that you leave the natural environment for others to enjoy as well. A portion of the training covers group management and GREAT OUTDOORS
leadership skills. Trip Notes: Phase I & Phase II
